That is interesting. Though I wonder if NIN is more niche music in a way than something like Christina Aguilera. What I mean being that such "pop culture" albums would have a wider social audience with which to test people's knack for truly paying for it. Not to pigeon-hole, but I would associate a lot of NIN's stereotypical audience as slightly against the establishment as it is.
