People are amazingly stupid.
It's apparently become somewhat vogue among the script kiddies to write "rice bots" - programs that simulate a browser interacting with the site. A single-threaded rice-bot, given the site's response time, can generate enough right answers for about 160,000 grains per day - enough to feed eight people.
Of course, the revenue to pay for the rice comes from the ads displayed at the bottom of the screen, and while the companies participating likely don't care much about the click-through rate, they do care that the ads are seen by humans. Unless someone does something about the bots (changing the site to make it impractical for the bots to operate), the advertisers are likely to disappear.
Bots don't feed more people - they make the site ineffective.
That said, I think it's a brilliant idea, and I wish I'd thought of it. I'm definitely going to make sure that the teachers I know hear about it.
