Coat Hanger vs. Monster Audio Cable

Link link by VnutZ on 08 March 2008, tagged as audio and science

Everyone has seen Über expensive special audio cables for premium speaker hook-ups. Are they worth it? Blind tests show audiophiles couldn't tell the difference between them and a bent coat hanger!

This experiment is rather flawed. So what if coat hanger wire works just as well? It's not like it's a viable replacement for most people. Not only would it be difficult to route, but time has to be invested to manually manufacture the wire. (That would be an interesting article: Make your own stereo cables out of hangers.) Then there are questions about durability, reliability, safety, etc.

If they want to test how "worth it" the Monster cables are - at least from an audio quality perspective - then they need to do the same A/B comparison with cheaper wires. To get the whole picture, they need to address the string of issues I mentioned above.
