It is very important for the Republican cause to keep abortion in the news up until the next presidential election. Not that they want to do anything about it, but it vastly enhances their election prospects to maintain righteous indignation among conservative voters. Appealing to the masses of God fearing common decent folk by pleading for the lives of these poor little unwanted babies is one of the most effective ways of getting them to vote against their own economic interests. Another one is gun laws.
