I had a good working relationship with the Navy EOD guys on our FOB. I was able to run them a NIPR phone (which meant they could call home without AT&T) and in exchange, they handed me an ammo can saying, “open this somewhere else.” Inside were four big cans of Guinness – not the crappy “near beer” served by the Army but real beer. Their place was always cool anyway because it was decorated with all the dismantled scrap metal, inert explosives and they’d practice driving their robot around.

They blew up some dude’s car out in sector once because it was suspected of having bombs in the trunk. Turns out it didn’t. Oops.
