Generally, I use GIMP, but I don’t have a lot of that sort of work to do. Certainly not enough to warrant a $400 piece of software.

I don’t find GIMP’s UI to be particularly intuitive. On the other hand, I don’t find it any less intuitive than Photoshop, which seems to have a similar problem with a bazillion “palettes” strewn around.
