In the same "history repeats itself" vein, I want to point out Lucretius who was arguing against creationism and religion before Christianity even existed. He wrote On the nature of Things an epic poem that denounced religion. He did it in the format of an open letter addressed to a member of the government. It makes me wonder if the human race makes any progress.
