Because I was busy, I was sort of sitting back and allowing this topic to take form in the unique way that OmniNerd forms things. To be honest with you, I was not fully aware before I started looking at the many provided links, that the whole 911 thing been entered into such a world of deep conspiracy. We have "911 Conspiracy Theories", "Debunking 911 Conspiracy Theories and even "Debunking 911 Debunking". Since I am somewhat related to the Schmo family, I decided I’d better take a look at both positions in the debate if possible, before I was sucked into some conclusion that only the complete ignorance of a true Schmo can be sucked into. There is no way to completely prove or disprove anything with the data that we-who-are-just-sitting-at-home are ever going to get, and so this post is not meant to do either, but more to just record some observations and state some opinions on those observations.
I have to admit that about two or three days after 911 happened, the thought did run across my furtive, paranoid and suspicious mind that maybe somehow it was of a conspiratorial nature. I’m not sure why I thought that except that I had just finished reading George Orwell’s "1984", after starting it about 5 different times throughout my life. I guess it was sort of like being a kid who leaves someone’s house after listening to ghost stories all night; and having to walk home in the dark. Every rock, tree and bush is a sinister entity, and the imagination can conjure up all kinds of things when you are in that state of mind. But it’s not to say there isn’t some value to a little bit of that state of mind; many of Orwell’s warnings are slightly in play these days, especially when it comes to some of the media.
When I watched the "Truthers" video documentary, I watched it mostly without sound, so as not to be swayed by that intent, persuasive voice giving the play by play of each scene as it saw fit. (I watched it with sound too. That’s how I knew the content of the voice was tying to be persuasive.) Honestly, as far as the Twin Towers go, I don’t see anything unreasonable in the fact that they fell after being almost cut in half by the planes and then subjected to heat which further weakened the already damaged steel.
It would take forever to sit and refute every "truther" claim, and it looks like many already have. Many of the "unanswered questions" seem to have answers, although apparently not to the conspiracy hound’s likings. And that leads me to the real point of this post.
If the 911 conspiracy theorists claims are all true, then that means that any and all directly involved are responsible for thousands of deliberate deaths of their own innocent people to pursue an agenda not sanctioned by anyone but themselves. This would be the absolute worst thing this country could ever have happen to it, because it would put those involved on the same ideological level as Hitler and Stalin and ironically Saddam Hussein himself.
Those that are making these accusations had better be relying on pure facts and not selected, twisted and manipulated ones cherry picked in order to pursue their obvious political agenda.
After saying all that, I will say that the only thing that really bothers me out of all this (in a questioning sort of way) is the WTC7 collapse. Even if it was a demolition it seems like an above average job, it fell so neatly.
One more thing: Anyone who thinks they are going to prove or disprove anything in this debate by simply surfing the internet is seriously delusional.
