Why they are in prison is largely irrelevant to the fact that they are slaves. They are being forced to work for profitable corporates for no pay, or only token pay, with no occupational health and safety rights. How they got there becomes relevent only if they would otherwise not be there. This could be true if parole is being denied to good workers, or non parole times are being lengthened, or longer sentences being set, in order to strengthen the supply of this free labor: there is some evidence that this may be happening.

You ask some good questions about why many people cannot drag themselves out of poverty by working hard in the way we do. I don’t know the answers but I do not assume that it is because they are worthless people who would be more useful as prison slaves.

If we start from the position that all children are innocent and deserving of a decent life; and that they have enormous potential to contribute to the prosperity of this country, then try to find out why that potential is not being captured, then we might be able to home in on the real problems and learn to overxome them.

Generalizing about the worthlessness of black people is never going to do it. it sounds bigoted and racist: because it is.
