Green electricity should be cheaper
Why are we all so willing to believe that Green Energy should be more expensive than that generated using fossil fuels? Mining and freighting coal and then using boilers and turbines should be a much more expensive operation than a wind farm. You are getting wind energy, so why is that more expensive. I think they just want us to cover their capex investment, but the capital costs should be written off over 10 to twenty years. Hydro dams and generators were paid for many years ago and are now highly profitable.
Those profits should cover the capex.
I’ll believe I am getting it when it is cheaper than dirty electricity.

Of course they do. From the perspective of their management, the viable choices are:
Currently, they have no financial motivation to conduct the research. The companies that do currently offer greener sources are not cheaper, so for the power companies, it’s a simple supply-chain problem — given two suppliers providing identical electrons, you buy the cheaper one.
It’s absurd to simply wish that a for-profit company would take on a fairly large capital risk for purely altruistic reasons.
