You mean if you tell him his religious beliefs need to change somehow because “god told me,” it would be a good enough answer?

Frankly, I doubt it, but that’s essentially what they offer as the basis for belief. Mormons seem to be a slightly different story, as you go in more for this “personal revelation” thing, but mainstream Christians don’t have that luxury. They believe because of testimony—that of their preachers, their bibles, their neighbors, whatever. Telling people what their god wants them to do makes men like Pat Robertson very wealthy.
