To Your Point on Opting Out of a Search
In Korea, I raised a ruckus in the airport once because they allowed all the first class passengers to bypass the baggage searches enroute to the US. Their explanation was nothing better than, “But they’re First Class.” Yet an even more egregious failure on their part was after I raised the inequity of the behavior between flight classes and refused to let them search my bag – they let me through without searching me. I’m pretty sure the rest of the people in line behind me received the same hand wave ….
My complaint letter letter to the airline received nothing more than a “noted” letter in return.

People intent on doing harm will almost always find a way to get around the system, it’s something that you can’t prevent 100% of the time. Something along the lines of what Occams was mentioning would be worth looking into, though I don’t necessarily agree with
pepper spray and stun guns.
It was the passengers though who were the hero’s.
