I tend to view these multi-threaded discussions as a many headed hydra, and keeping up with it can be just as taxing.
Tell me about it. :D
I’ll third that. I don’t know a really good way to peruse a many threaded discussion. Sadly, I am in the same boat you are in this regard. I just click on the Last Ten → Comments tab and see if the current comments are in my thread.

Unfortunately, that only works a little, as people can, and do (hint, hint), change the comment titles. So, I tend to look at my comment list and see what has (has not) been replied to.
