That’s hardly fair to Wilson, I thought th 14 points were intended to diffuse the back and forth nature of European wars. Didn’t the career diplomats from the Great Powers reject the 14 points out of hand and say somethng to the effect of “God only needed 10 commandments and Wilson needs 14.”

Yes, you are right. His 14 points were really quite reasonable. Sorry for my intemperate judgement of him. He did his best and his hands were tied in a lot of ways by the French Italians Japanese and British (in that order).
He was so keen to get his league of nations and that was a far sighted vision. Shame it all went so horribly wrong.
