Why Won't Anyone Take The News At Face Value?

Everyone seems to act like it’s a big mystery about “why did she do it? Will she run blah blah?” She said it herself: all of the contrived media BS surrounding her coupled with the bogus “ethics” complaints that would probably dog her if she stayed her full term made her a distraction from Alaskan politics. People act mystified about referring to herself as a “lame duck” but it couldn’t be clearer: all her political opponents have to do is refer to the “ethics” complaints or the tabloid fodder and she would have to waste time answering them. Or have some political hack lodge more bogus “ethics” complaints that cost taxpayer and Palin’s own money to clear up while costing the complainer nothing. This has probably been the most successful campaign of political character assassination in recent memory. I’m not sure which is worst: the crap flung from the left ’’or’’ the crap flung from ‘’her own party.’’ It has taken more courage and personal integrity for her to resign and put Alaska first and force her enemies to have to deal with the issues again instead of using her as a distraction from the issues than it would to “stick it out” just to further her political career.

I’m not going to argue with you that there were lots of reasons she made this decision. However, I cannot accept that taking this news “at face value” involves not wondering about what this means for the future. I’m sure even you are not sure what she will do. If you are, please let the rest of us out here drooling in cyberspace know because we think “it’s a big mystery,” and are “mystified.”

Please don’t get defensive and try to write off honest interest in what is happening in American politics.

Some Face Value by gnifyus :: NR6

There’s one thing for sure; she sure is a Ramblin’ Lady.

From the above link which is the transcript of her exit speech:

My choice is to take a stand and effect change – not hit our heads against the wall and watch valuable state time and money, millions of your dollars, go down the drain in this new environment. Rather, we know we can effect positive change outside government at this moment in time, on another scale, and actually make a difference for our priorities – and so we will, for Alaskans and for Americans.

And:

In the words of General MacArthur said, “We are not retreating. We are advancing in another direction.”

“on another scale” are the key words in the first statement. What will that mean? There are definitely overtones for future action here.

There may be some answers to all of this found in an organization called SarahPAC, and even more answers (that lead to even more questions) found in The Alaska Fund Trust. The “Alaska Trust Fund” was created to raise money for legal fees , " created to defend the integrity of the Alaska Governor’s Office from an onslaught of political attacks launched against current Governor Sarah Palin."

SarahPAC is a money raising entity to fund Sarah Palin’s particular brand of politics for the future.

For those of you who underestimate any of this, there are many people around me even in the Blue State of Massachusetts who will be ready for that brand if the current administration fails to get the economy going, (amongst other things).

I do not think Sarah Palin will be the actual candidate selected, whatever becomes of this.

In light of this, the votemaster at electoral-vote.com suggests three questions that she will need to answer if she runs for president in 2012:

  1. If governing Alaska was too tough for you, how will you run the whole country?
  2. If you are elected President, how do we know you won’t quit when you learn where the buck stops?
  3. Why do you think 2 1/2 years as governor of an empty state qualifies you to be President?

While these questions may seem harsh, they will need to be answered if she ever runs for president, or any other high office for that matter. As to the questions regarding ethics violations, I can understand why she would want to get out from under that. However, stepping down won’t get rid of those questions; they’ll only resurface if she decides to run again. I think she is better off dealing with them head on now, instead of when they will inevitably reappear. To do otherwise, will continue to reinforce her image as a lightweight.

As to the whole “lame-duck” thing, the votemaster brings up another good point, “The filing deadline for governor is close to a year from now. As long as no one knew if she was running for governor again, she would not have been a lame duck and the state legislature would have had to treat her with respect.” Simply put, she made herself a lame duck, and any fall out from that is her own fault.

All in all, it seems that she has managed to put herself in the news cycle every several weeks, or so, since the election, so, of course, there is going to be continual speculation on whether she wishes to run in 2012 or not. And, this has continued to fuel the crap she is getting from both the left and the right, some of which isn’t fair, I’ll agree. But, since she doesn’t seem to want the nation’s attention to dim, the speculation will continue.
