Sometimes they start having sex with each other and without being too discrete about it. The old hands tell them this is normal practice in the Navy and they had better get used to it. Their NCOs may tell them that the senior sailors have a right to expect it from the new sailors.

I don’t know what Navy you were in, but this certainly did not happen in my command. Anyone who was even suspected of homosexual behavior was immediately Captain’s masted and discharged for ‘the good of the Navy’.

In the US Navy during my tenure in the 1980’s, there was a simple policy..if you’re gay you’re gone.
