Well I guess the issue is, do they have a contract with a record label? If so, then they don’t have the right to give away the music. It’s the equivalent of splitting the cost of a lottery ticket with someone and then giving away all the winnings – some of it isn’t yours to give.

If not, then as per usual, the RIAA can fuck the hell off.

if you go to the nin website they talk about that. of course when I go to c/p what they say the spesite is down… but I beleve I rember it being said (for Ghost I-IV) that it is self produced, and not on any label… but I could be flawed….

Their latest works (Ghosts I-IV) were not released under a RIAA label. The download release is actually a celebration of their contract running out.
