ClearPlay Policy
I went through ClearPlay’s catalogue and looked up all of the movies listed so far. Most of them were available, but some weren’t. After submitting requests for each of those missing, I received one of a number of responses for each; the movies didn’t have filters either because they hadn’t gotten around to it yet, they thought a filter would compromise the integrity of the movie, or because the filter wasn’t public. I thought the policy explanations for the latter two were interesting, so I’m going to include them here, as well as the movies in each category.
Movie Integrity
Movies included:
- American Beauty
- The Big Lebowski
- The Boondock Saints
- Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Policy statement:
bq. Thank you for your request! Unfortunately, we will not be creating a Filter for [INSERT MOVIE TITLE] at this time.
One of our unwavering standards at ClearPlay is that we will not provide a Filter that will ruin the customer experience watching the movie. We don’t want our viewers scratching their heads, wondering what is going on, asking what someone is talking about (because half their words are muted) and wishing they were watching without ClearPlay. We are even willing to bypass some filter categories if required to understand the movie, naturally with explicit warnings to our users. But some movies are so graphic, and the content so prevalent, that we can’t make a Filter that we think you will enjoy. So we don’t.
We have Filters for over 2000 movies, with more every week. We have almost all of the top 1000 all-time box office leaders. We hope you enjoy our collection, and understand when the occasional movie is not a good candidate for ClearPlay.
Filter Not Public
Movie included:
- Schindler’s List
Policy Statement:
bq. Thank you for your request! We do have a Filter for [INSERT MOVIE TITLE], but it has not been released at this time due to the mature content that still remains in the film. I will include the current version of the Filter with this e-mail. If you would like to evaluate it, download the attached file and copy it to a CD or USB flash to load it onto your player. We would appreciate your opinion regarding the filtering quality. If you have any more questions regarding this Filter, please let us know.

Maybe I’m the only one who thinks this is interesting, but I do. So there.
