If we all really really cared...
...we would probably stop buying products from environmentally reckless factories; oil from reckless nations; etc. etc. (like this were at all remotely feasible)
... at the same time, I can see why China and India feel like they are getting the shorter end: after all, the American Dream has always been 2-3 cars per family plus a mega house in the suburbs. And the United States got there by pretty much polluting the hell out of its own rivers, air, soil. Which was OK, because in the 70's we started to actually do something about it. And it was also OK because no one else did it at scale. The problems began when the REST of the world wanted a piece of that American Dream and had the means to get there.
