Berkeley Marines Protest

Comment comment by LordDilly on 15 February 2008

Zombietime has up pics from the big one. Please, could one of you Berkelyites explain to me how a big chunk of these people depicted are a: not virulently anti-American and b: smarter and better educated about the issues than your average American? Also, do you really find the behavior of the local school kids encouraged by the attending adults to be at all appropriate?

DUDE! The so called "pro-American" protesters look the craziest!!! hahaha! One lady has American flag contacts...go figure.

Most of the protesters are either professors or students...most of those pictures are right from the UC Berkeley campus...I know BUMS in Berkeley with Physics degrees!! It has nothing to do with the way people look...

yes, educating your kids on their right to protest is important. These kinds of events open children's minds...it helps them to think more critically about what is important...what is important is the issue's and how they affect all of us...not the way people look or the quality of life people chose to have.

What does it mean to LOOK intelligent? Would you say Einstein "looked" intelligent?

Oh yeah...and I know the black girl in that picture that's calling the other lady a "racist"...she's a Berkeley High School student who isn't at all educated on current events, I doubt she's really clear on the complexity of what she is defending, (or not)...many of the high school students you see there flipping people off and looking generally ignorant, probably are, protests definitely attract all kinds...I can't defend EVERYONE in Berkeley.

I think age plays a major factor in an issue such as this...its hard to have a clear opinion on something like this when you don't even have a drivers license, or voted, or had a job...I suppose if you want to talk about "looks" then I suppose the one's the "look" younger have the highest probability of not knowing what they're talking about...hahaha of coarse there are always exceptions.

Ugh...I am so embarrassed for that black girl (won't disclose her name) its so embarrassing that someone took a picture of her being a complete idiot and it made it all the way to the East Coast (or wherever most of you guys are). She's just an impressionable little kid...I feel like many of these were cheap shots at the people of Berkeley in general, I think we could have been represented better then what was demonstrated by those pictures...it was so hecktic that day though, we had people literally come here from the EAST COAST just to protest against the motions of Berkeley, because they thought (based on the media) that Berkeley was against the soldiers (and not against the real culprits, our executives) it was really intense...but pretty civil, relatively speaking...I sure you learn this being in the military though, and that is, crowds are dumb, and brainless...when you get too many people in one place at one time, the purpose gets clouded...and consequently, it looses purpose...I think that creates a need for organizations like Code Pink, to demonstrate based on a core set of values in a consistent and effective (effective = high profile) way.
