You are incorrect. Each time you start a shuffle, you are starting a new sequence. The shuffle function will never play the same song twice until it has played all songs. Unfortunately, you are stopping play and restarting or reshuffling... or the iPod sleeps or gets shutdown... In which case, a new shuffle is started and it's not surprising at all that the same song would be "repeated." It is "random", i.e. it does not equal songs you haven't played in a "while".

Evidence suggests otherwise
I have no ratings for any of my 4363 songs in my library. Using regular shuffle itunes will play the same songs twice within a couple hours. I do not have any duplicates. Also, the next day or the next time I restart itunes, itunes will play many of the same songs it played the previous day or time. I have watched and checked and watched over the last 6 months and this random thing is not so random.
