I guess that's par for the course......here in the states, you never were able to see Red Skelton (Hill's true American counterpart) or Milton Berle or any of the really, REALLY funnymen of television lo these past 25 years. Partly that's because a large part of their legacy's B&W, but that has no bearing on the quality of the end product any more than Hill's particular angles. The true jesters of our society are obliterated in favor of bland, insipid nobodies, populating the boobtube all over.
