This whole approach seems to be an entirely different approach from H.G. Wells “Invisible Man” concept where in order to be invisible, an object must be completely clear so that all light passes through it, thus rendering it invisible. In this case it seems like they are bending the microwaves around an object so that no waves bounce off it to show that it is there to the microwave sensors. When scientists get to the point where they are actually able to bend visible light in this manner, it is going to become a weird world real fast.
