Nerdiest Costumes?

Comment comment by markmcb on 31 October 2005

I'm curious to hear about some nerdy costumes. If you were a vampire, or a ghost, you don't count. But if you had to explain to someone what your costume was, or why it was clever, then let's hear about it.

My wife and I were Apple iPods. I was the new full-color iPod. On my screen was an album by Jessica Simpson playing the track entitled, "Mark is Hot." I thought that was pretty funny (even if it's totally true!!!).

Liz's was funnier though, in my opinion. She was an iPod mini. If you're not aware, Apple stopped making the mini when the nano came out. So we but the standard Apple logo on the screen but gave it an evil eye and some teeth. It was "back from the dead." I'm laughing as I type just thinking about an iPod being scary.

So anyway, there's mine. Let's hear yours.

Didn't dress up Saturday night, but I did want to point out one thing about Halloween that Will missed entirely. Arguably the most important thing - the Saturday night before the actual event when all the young bar-going ladies dress up in the skimpiest thing they can find. I might yet write an article about it, but as romantic prospects, I recommend the girls with either (a) little devil horns and little devil pitch forks or (b) the girls with the kitty ears and the kitty tail. Ran into a cat woman this weekend as well, gotta watch out for those whips. I love Halloween.

My wife and I were Deb and Napoleon Dynamite. I wish there was a way to upload pictures into comments. I sported jeans tucked into boots, a mini fro, a (real) walkman, a delicious bass, a boondoggle keychain I actually did make at scout camp, a vote for Pedro shirt, and an uncany ability to run leaning forward without any arm movement. Kari had a pink fanny pack, another boondoggle keychain I actually made at scout camp, a side-ponytail and a pink-striped 80's shirt. Total sweetness.

Well, this year I was an Orc (Uruk-hai, to be exact, down to the white handprint on my head) and I won a prize for scariest costume...of course my only competition in that category was an old Paul Stanley. My wife went as Galadrial, so it was funny to see an Orc and Elf queen holding hands. My friends (a husband and wife team) went as the Joker and Harley Quinn. I wish we could post pictuers here too, because I am pretty good with make up FX. I've previously been a cyborg soldier, a demon warrior, and perhaps the best, the Hang-Over Fairy. I wore a pink prom gown, blonde curly wig, bent and beat up fairy wings, a tattered sash the said "Hang Over Fairy", a bent beer-can topped wand, smeared makeup, with a five o'clock shadow and chest and back hair glued on.
