This isn't necessarily an unexpected trend. There are stories all throughout the Christian scriptures about the tendency of those who are poor to accept the gospel much more willingly than those who are wealthy. The difference, however, is those writings relate the phenomenon to pride, while the final question in this post insinuates a link to education.
Well put...I agree whole heartedly. Jesus referred to the poor on several occasions. I think Matthew and Luke interpreted his saying differently...but this alludes to Brandon's point. One said "Poor" the other said "Poor in Spirit" Spirit being the attributes of your soul, or you. Basically its saying unless you humble yourself...Jesus mentioned it another time when he said its easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle then for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. "Rich" could be rich in anything, its not money thats the problem, its the affect it has on people. Its not knowledge that's the problem its the effect it has on people...its not attractiveness thats the problem...etc etc...the key is how it affects your spirit
how do you differentiate whether the poor accept religion because they are uneducated or because they are humble?
I think its really a matter of the heart. There are some arrogant and hardheaded poor people (here in Berkeley) and some humble rich people. I don't think you can look at the rate of conversion as a statistic though because its so complicated...the reasons people choose to serve God are complex...it comes down to the condition of your heart...that's exactly why I posted the question before about "How important is knowledge?" because when it comes down to it, its a commodity just like money, that affects people in the same way money does...and of coarse there are always exceptions, but generally when you know a lot about something you build pride, and you depend on that knowledge as a foundation...same thing with money...a poor person, or uneducated person has no foundation and the ones in search of God generally acknowledge this "void" if you will and look for answers...
I talked a lot in past posts about goals...and generally whether you're rich or poor, peoples goals are the same...live the highest quality of life possible...that goal is no different for someone who choses to serve God....If your quality of life is contingent upon how much money you have and you achieve that goal, then there is little reason to waste time serving God...conversely, you may have all of the money in the world but your quality of life is low because you're more interested in serving God then anything else that makes you a likely candidate for conversion...some of the most unlikely people are often the easiest to convert...

Correlation between wealth and pride
This isn't necessarily an unexpected trend. There are stories all throughout the Christian scriptures about the tendency of those who are poor to accept the gospel much more willingly than those who are wealthy. The difference, however, is those writings relate the phenomenon to pride, while the final question in this post insinuates a link to education.
I guess my question is, how do you differentiate whether the poor accept religion because they are uneducated or because they are humble?
