I thought he was comparing ancient religions to big business and capitalism in the modern era, sort of declaring capitalism to be 'the new religion' like dilly said.
The song references eight seperate faiths: saturn, praetorian, the fields of elysium, the holy ghost, the golden parachute, infected calf, crumbs of Barley Bread, and Occam's Razor. I recognize that this is a huge stretch, so bear with me.
1. Saturn is sort of obvious.
2. Praetorian This is a real stretch, and only works if you accept that any sort of civic duty or service was a religious observation for a Roman Citizen.
3. Elysium is another easy one.
4. Holy Ghost or Holy Ghost could be any number of different religions.
5. The golden parachute could bethis or this.
6. The infected calf could be either this or this with a real stretch of the imagination.
7. Crumbs of barley bread could refer to Kosher Dietary Laws.
8. Occam's Razor would refer to philosophy being its own religion.

Deviant Morphology
It’s not just modern day lyrics that give the impression of fever dreams. Poets such as Dylan Thomas and e.e cummings for example:
nonsun blob
a cold to
skylessness
sticking fire
my are your
are birds our all
and one gone
away the they
leaf of ghosts some
few creep there
here or on
unearth
This even has a name apparantly – deviant morphology which seems a fairly fitting name.
Many songs from the late 60’s and early 70’s; even mainstream bands like Yes seemed to apply this poetic imagery without a clear overall meaning to their lyrics.
And let’s not forget Captain Beefheart. (This guy even paints too, Brandon.)
