Boogieman ain't as scary as the all time favorite M. Jackson! I promise you that any kids, no matter what age, will tremble in fear upon just hearing the name of this nose less white faced monster! He's even scarier that 'IT' the Clown!
[Note: M. Jackson is a factional monster, so have no fear little kids]
In all seriousness, it makes me cringe whenever I overhear a parent try to threaten their child by the “Bogeyman” method, which can take the form of utilizing any form of ‘outside’ source as the punisher except the actual parents themselves. It’s as if they are afraid to appear as if they could ever be the bad guy, and instead are acting as a councilor or warning patron against any calamity that might befall the child because of his or her misbehavior. Most of the time I cringe, because I usually see right then and there how ineffective that method is in controlling whatever is happening at the time. When the child gets older and suddenly notices that no actual consequences were ever dealt, and also doesn’t really think the Bogeyman is ever going to come, or that he even exists at all; then what form of discipline is the parent going to switch to after all those years?

scared kids

From a former scared child, who laid awake at night in fear of all sorts of goblins, I would surmise that threating children with the Boogeyman is far worse than any other option. The prospect of some malformed, sweaty, lazy-eyed psycho coming to steal them away as punishment for not cleaning their room is probably more than most kids could stand. I'm about to wet my pants just thinking about it....
