Burning alive must be the worst, very worst, thing to survive. As for a death from it though, it would still be quicker than being trapped. I can't imagine how horrible it must be to be stuck in or under something and know that you're never going to get out. The panic and fear would make you wish you were dead looooong before you ever really did die. They say you can survive 12 plus days without water and 30 days without food. Argh! The agony!

You must have read Edgar A. Poe's 'Pit and Pendulum'. That was a scary one. The guy is trapped in a dark square cave with a bottomless hole in the middle and a pendulum trying to cut him mm by mm.
