Insane Bosses

Comment comment by LordDilly on 21 April 2006

Noticeably absent from this poll is the option of "Insane Bosses". And by insane, I mean the kind who think they can operate your machinery- and they can't- but they think they are doing a good job (a monkey %&*@ing a football, but the monkey thinks he's getting the football off) and who never stop talking, and by talking I mean shouting "Hot stuff! Hot Stuff!" over and over again, or giving themselves verbal instruction ("pick it up John! Back up John! Put it down John!") or otherwise spouting random oddities like "That's right!" "Come on, go ahead!" and "10-4 on the 4-footer, Cap'n!"

And by insane, I mean the kind who think they can operate your machinery- and they can't- but they think they are doing a good job ....

While we were on FOB Falcon, a certain MAJ (who shall remain nameless) decided he was qualified to operate a forklift. For background, there was a pair of boots hanging from black cables overhead (as seems to be standard on almost every Army post somewhere). Well, the commanding general was coming through for a visit so naturally everyone decided to begin sucking up for his presence which meant 'cleaning up the desert warzone.' Go figure. Anyway, as a means of removing the boots, he elevated a soldier in the air on the forklift and with an absence of aerial safety a la OSHA or 31L training, he managed to get that soldier electrocuted on some power lines.

Needless to say, it was very difficult for me to get access to the forklift for re-doing aerial fiber and Cat5 network runs after he did this because everyone was afraid of their own liability for the equipment from that day forward.
