One of the things we've discussed is revamping the user pages (which are essentially worthless right now) and allowing users to keep a book list of their own, rather than having one huge list. That way, if there's someone you respect on the site, you could check out what he/she is reading. A categorization system isn't a bad idea though... I'll give it some thought.
For the time being, we do have the category, "literary critiques" for book reviews. This tends to be more of an article-only category, but it may be what you're looking for if you have a book that you think highly of and would like to spread the word.
... and after all, we do have a super-sweet article draft system now. :-)

What should I read? I'm a meathead
An interactive read list. Allow readers to submit titles they have read, with a short description of content, and allow members to score the book based on importance, joy of reading, or historical relevance. Right now, I'm reading things off my amazon.com recommended list, which, while interesting, doesn't allow me to broaden my horizons as much as I'd like. The problem I can see with this is that the list will become gargantuan in a few short weeks, so a cataloging system might be complicated.
