Explain to me how random processes generated the amount of information found in DNA? Or how any one of our irreducible complex machines (flagellum, human cell) came about. It's not possible for Darwin's silly evolution theory to choose a machine that didn't work, and if none of these things that exist today function without ALL of their pieces, Darwin's theory is blown out, again. He stated that this was the downfall of his theory in Origin of Species. It takes more faith to believe in Evolution then it does to believe in Jesus and God.
Since you like to oversimplify...
Entropy kills the notion that random chance can produce order when the initial state is disorder.
I suppose you consider everything but last page of a mystery novel as wasteful as well. It's the story!; God is an artist/author not a scientist. He has no need to experiment anymore that you do to guess the best move in tic-tac-toe.

inefficient universe
if the universe was created by a god with the ultimate aim of generating wo/man for a blissfull existence in heaven, s/he must be a wasteful creator!
I would assume that if there is an entity that is more powerful and intelligent than the universe, than that entity must have been doodling for quite a while before creating a self-conscious being that can contemplate such stuff.
It would make sense: all those billions of years intelligently designing a universe with billions of stars, i'd want to experiment with self-conscious beings. It would certainly relieve the loneliness...
nah! evolution kills the notion that everything started from a higher, perfect state: we're rising from the 'mud' because the random processes that got us here created a self perpetuating phenomenon, that is until the sun lets off some wind and relieves us of having to think about all these important issues!
