Free Wii Remote Jackets

Cup blog (coffee shop) by Brandon on 03 January 2008, tagged as wii, nintendo, wii remote jacket, video game safety, and games

I love my (uh, I mean our) Wii. Perhaps my only complaint is the destructive tendency of playing involved games in tight spaces. I've smashed my fingers a couple of times on various surrounding objects, given neighboring players a good whack or two in the elbow, and even watched my TV endure a hardy-yet-incidental smack from my mother-in-law. As of yet, there has been no permanent damage, but Wii Remote Jackets did start to look more and more appealing. (Because they're safe ... not because they're addictive-ly squishy.)

When I purchased my fourth Wii Remote, however, it came already dressed in a Jacket - as opposed to the first three which didn't. I initially suspected some sort of packaging error, but then I began hearing rumors. I looked around online and discovered the Jacket has been promoted from accessory to an actual part of the Wii Remote. In other words, all Wii Remotes now come with a Jacket.

Additionally, Nintendo is offering Jackets for all past Remotes - free of charge. Simply fill out an online form with shipping information, the serial number of your Wii, and quantity of Jackets desired and you'll be well on your way to safer Wii play. (I know, I know - the myriad warnings and cautions included during gameplay should be enough ... What can I say? Sometimes, things just get a little crazy.)

Given the sweetness of the offer and the huge popularity of the Wii, you might wonder about Nintendo's turnaround. I submitted the form with a request for three Jackets sometime shortly after December 15th and received notification of shipment January 2nd. If the package of free goodness arrives within the next two weeks, that makes less than a month from order submittal to Jacket delivery. Yet another Nintendo success story.

Free Wii Remote Jackets in the U.S. or Canada by Brandon :: NR9 :: on 06 January 2008

The link I provided to actually order the jackets was from Nintendo Europe, and it appears the country field on the order form can only be set to to certain locations. Cool for our British readers (and for making OmniNerd seem more international); not cool for those of you outside of the U.K. or Ireland.

Here is the link to order free Wii Remote Jackets for those in the U.S. or Canada.
