iOS 5 Problems
Anybody having issues with the upgrade to iOS 5 and the Apple iCloud?
Thus far, I’ve noticed most of my music files no longer play properly in the renamed Music app. The player just sits at 0:00 while indicating that it’s playing or it just skips through tracks before hanging like that. I’ve noticed it seems to have no problem with iTunes purchased, DRM-crippled music. In various Google searches, this problem has been reported by others in addition to various issues regarding cloud syncing causing duplications and other problems with contacts, the calendar, etc.

Music Fix by VnutZ
So I’ve seen a couple of things on-line now that the problem has begun appearing for others. The fix is as simple as unsyncing your music entirely to remove it all from the phone and then syncing it back. The explanation is rather lame – perhaps the upgrade process botches up the flags for recompressed music (if you’re the type to check the 128kbps box to store more music). The upgrade also likes to fail claiming you’ve run out of disk space on the phone … a resync shows you haven’t but there clearly seems to be a bug in the process related to the filesystem.

I also had an issue where I began doing background sync’s to the iCloud instead of locally to iTunes. Then I decided that wasn’t going to work out anymore since it failed to sync my local computer’s contact list (and subsequently my other iPhone’s contact list). So I switched back to local backups and sync’ing. The somehow made the phone create double and triple entries into my calendar for existing material and forced me to revalidate all of my contacts claiming they’d changed. Ugh.
No problem with music; minor issue with pics by mikeforbes
My update was smooth and trouble-free, but my wife had a minor issue with her “camera roll” photo album being emptied — the pics were still on the phone, just not accessible. A few minutes of Google-ing turned up an easy fix that involved downloading iExplorer, deleting a few files, and re-syncing.

It would only play the pre-2009 .m4p’s (i.e., before iTunes went DRM-free)? Strange.
