Where The Gods Play

Page_white_text

article by markmcb on 12 September 2004, tagged as creativewriting

It consumes our world, though we do not know
How or why. Another vast element.
One dimension beyond our minds’ limit,
We are constrained by its mighty shadow.

Of what outside our time can the gods grasp?
Perhaps it’s the containment of our souls
That requires a new grip with which to hold,
And encompasses future, present, past.

If only once I could see, understand,
That which governs my fate and destiny,
If I could approach immortality,
Then I would believe the childhood legend.

But only answered with my lone, last breathe,
My enlightenment kindled by my death.

I believe you opened my eyes to the more enlightening poetry of Marilyn Manson some years ago: "… I’m not a slave to a god that doesn’t exist …" Isn’t easier to just live in apathy regarding the Great Question? After all, doesn’t the majority of the world believe in polytheism anyway – in which case, there is a high probability most people’s efforts of piousness are probably aimed at the WRONG deity.
