The History of Hypertext

Layout article by markmcb on 16 July 2004, tagged as webdesign, history, and computing

Hypertext. Everyone has heard the term tossed around, but few actually know what it is or from where it came. I too found myself wondering about the exact origin of this thing called hypertext that plays such a critical role in the way I communicate with the world dozens of times a day.

With curiosity building in my mind, I decided to do a few days research and find out a bit more about hypertext and its history. As I scoured the net, I was taken back 60 years to the roots of hypertext, its conceptual development over the next few decades, and finally to its implementation into the average person's everyday life just ten short years ago.

I think anyone who uses the web on a regular basis will find this article interesting.

Knighted by Anonymous :: NR0

Mark, did you see that Tim was knighted? I don't think members of round tables are what they used to be. :-)
