The Breaking of the British Hostages

The return of the infamous 15 British sailors from their captivity in Iran has turned out to be more of a fiasco than the actual imprisonment. It seems these members of the British military cooperated with their captors after some minor psychological pressure (not to mention the grueling ping-pong and soccer). The marine commander admits they broke a little "too easily," something that will likely wound British self-respect.

Additionally, some of the previous captives are looking to capitalize on the story. Fayne Turney, the female hostage who was seen round the world reading her confession, for example, has sold her story for 100,000 pounds.

Not all, of course, but as someone who served 8 years in the Army, this doesn’t surprise me. Many sailors are scummy folks. Sorry, all those offended. I certainly don’t have any evidence, other than the proximity of whorehouses to maritime ports.
I would say they might not be trained for imprisonment the way ground forces are, but one would assume sailors operating so close to (in?) Iranian waters, where the same thing happened in 2004, would be trained more than most.
In fairness, the majority of them conducted themselves honorably. The TV footage of "apologies" and "confessions" made me wince, but I assumed they were getting the prisoners’ dilemma and no sleep. It turns out it wasn’t so rough, which is an indictment of the minority who did cooperate.
The female’s book deal completes the picture of her as totally trashy. She was among the first to confess and apologize, she sold her story within a couple of weeks of returning, and she smokes (sorry, smokers- many of you are nice, but it’s a trashy habit).
Bet she has tattoos too! Hooray for feminism.

code of conduct by nickfranklin

is there a british code of conduct?

Imprisonment and interrogation will have a profound impact on everyone who endures it. Each person will handle the situation differently and each will submit to something different. There are any number of events that could have taken place that the public is obviously not aware of. The end reslut is the 15 sailors returned alive.
There is so much we do not know about this crew of 15 sailors. They could very well be a group of misfits who got lost, or put into situation they could not handle.
As an American, I am glad that these folks were British, because I am tired of seeing Americans doing stupid stuff on the news all the time!
Dont forget that Jessica Lynch got knocked out, captured, and then rescued. She did not lift a finger, and sold her story for big money.
