Rebuilding a Kellogg 1000 Series Phone

Layout article by markmcb on 28 January 2005, tagged as doityourself

It may be hard for many to believe, but once upon a time phones were actually tied to the walls. Yes, back when dinosaurs roamed the Earth and our parents were only teenagers, cellular and wireless phones did not exist. We know this based on the stories told in cave markings and certain hieroglyphics.

I happened to find one of these ancient artifacts a few weeks ago and took the time to bring it into the future. In just a few short days I took a broken down and seemingly useless phone that had been collecting dust for the last few decades and transformed it into an operational and very nice looking telephone.

Still in use by Anonymous :: NR0

Mark, my parents still have their original rotary phone, use it every day. They've lived in their home for sixty years. My mother who is 87 doesn't know how to use "those new push button things!"

houseoftelephones.com this guy Odis LeOlevrier makes repro cords on an original machine that made them back in the 30's..they are the highest quality cords anywhere on the planet...and are reasonably priced. I have several of them and they're great.
