Maine "Okay" with Marijuana but not Gays
Election day came and went across the nation with mild fanfare, a few upsets and a handful of curiosities. In Maine, the general public voted 53% to 47% to reject the same-sex marriage laws. The law was originally signed May 6th, lasting a mere six months before succumbing to religious groups and those seeking to address domestic partnership inequality through law. Before labeling them as a pack of conservatives, folks in Maine also voted to legalize medical marijuana, making them the fifth state authorizing “dispensaries.” (That turns folks from drug dealers to business outlet operators in case you were wondering). Maine is not quite as cavalier as California’s unlicensed dispensaries serving doctors that can prescribe it for anything. It is expected to see more states turn a new leaf given the Obama administration’s declaration that distributors won’t be federally prosecuted.
