It was a rancorous day in the European Parliament. Measures being taken by Poland to stop the promotion of homosexuality in schools have come under intense fire by the Union’s governing body. In a debate that saw several Polish members get up and leave, the representatives from other EU nations railed against Poland and said the new standards would violate European law. British member, Michael Cashman, argued Poland "should be teaching us about fundamental values and that is why we will not hesitate to defend human rights and human rights’ defenders wherever they are." A representative from France called Poland’s statements "repulsive" and "hateful" and insisted that they "must stop." Poland’s Bogdan Pek labeled the condemnation of his country’s actions "an artificial piece of theater," adding that "Poland is a tolerant, hospitable country." The EU is now preparing to send a fact-finding mission to Poland in regards to this affair.
