Much is made of high school football players and their ratings. Many of them, however, turn out to be over- or under-rated. A comparison of how Rivals.com and Scout.com ranked players who made 2007 NCAA Division I All-America teams when they were just high school recruits shows just how much trust we can put in recruiting ratings.
It's seems like just another case where human observation and experience (scouts) will always trump a machine statistical generator.
I'm not sure I understand what "machine statistical generator" is being trumped.
Oh you're right. For whatever reason my mind assumed the reference sites had determined the star potential of the players based on an algorithm. Must be too much time in front of databases ....
I think OSU's AA RB was Chris Wells. Maurice Wells is his backup.
You're right. I don't know how I missed that.
It's fixed on the spreadsheet now. Thanks for the tip.
Yeah, that's not me. I'm just passin' along the info as an fyi.

Sweet. The SMQ post has some flaws, but it does come up with a creative method of gathering data I said didn't exist. I'm in the process of expanding my spreadsheet and will post either a comment, blog or article in reply.

It was an excellent comparison. Your understanding of the different variables that influences your numbers was evident. Very well done.
