Female athletes of questionable bulk and appearance will likely be subject to scientific sex determination tests designed by the Chinese. Testing dates as far back as the 1968 Olympics and has varied from simple appearance tests to chromosome tests. Questioned athletes in 2008 could be subject to a variety of genetic tests to determine their qualification as females.
