Welcome to OmniNerd!

Below is a quick introduction of what OmniNerd has to offer. If you have specific questions, feel free to contact our staff.

What is an OmniNerd?

Everyone has a certain something they care about more than most people. Whether it's code, weather statistics, or how to best spend your money, everyone has their niche. OmniNerds are those who share what they know and seek out knowledge from the experience of others. What results is a plethora of knowledge enjoyable for everyone.

What is there to do on OmniNerd?

OmniNerds spend most of their time posting and reading content. Content includes original articles, rehashings of current events, blogging, polls, link sharing, and comments (in descending order of nerdiness, as well as how much work they require).

How do I get started?

If you're new to the site, we recommend that you post a poll, drop a link, or share a thought in a comment. As you get the hang of the site, try blogging or writing news posts. Once you're ready, try to write an article. Articles constitute the best of OmniNerd. Our staff will help you get it formated, cleaned up, and posted. After that, we'll even help spread the word on the Internet so that a wide variety of readers can enjoy your work.

What makes OmniNerd special?

There are other places where those high on their own intellect can go to flex, so why spend your time on O-Nerd? Well, because it's better. So much better, we're not even going to tell you why. Ok, maybe we will.

OmniNerd is the master of its own domain. Unlike other sites which are limited by the code they buy or borrow, we have full control over our features and processes. So bring on the praise (and the blame)!
OmniNerd will make you feel dumb sometimes. (This appeals to nerds. Really.)
OmniNerd doesn't discriminate. From physics buffs to computer science gurus, football helmet obsessors to health nuts - we accept all nerds. So, don't be ashamed of your particular nerd brand; all are welcome!
OmniNerd is collaborative. Nerds here work together on articles, and OmniNerd moderators pitch in to help with articles, news and polls. If you've got material to contribute, we'll help you get it posted - or at least hook you up with someone who can.
OmniNerd is looks good. Really good. Catherine Zeta Jones good.
Lastly, OmniNerd is totally sweet ... and awesome. I mean, seriously, read the subtitle.

Features Overview

While some things on OmniNerd are just like everywhere else (e.g., the search box is in the top left, the home page can be accessed by clicking on the menu, there's a submenu linking to the main content groups and to moderator contact information, etc.), we do have our own way of doing other things.

Smack at the top of the front page is what we lovingly refer to as "the pulse." This is where you'll find what is new, popular, etc. on the site - right now. Click on each content type to view its information - and don't forget to expand the list if you want to see more!
Below the pulse on the front page is a list of the most recent articles, current events and blogs (not all of the blogs, though, just the coffee shop ones - we'll get to this in a minute). On the right of each entry is a place to vote up the content you like, as well as links to any comments. Also listed is the author, date, and any applicable tags. The article entries (which are longer) also have a link to read their entirety.
Off to the right on the front page (and every page, in fact), are a number of menus. If you're logged-in, you'll see links to your user profile, blog, messages, starred content, and more. (If you're not, there's an introductory note.) Below this is the content submission menu. This gives you easy access to post content wherever you are on the site. Lastly is the site poll (a moderator spouse favorite). Other menus will pop in from time to time as well, such as the article meta-data and the user messaging center, but those are pretty self-explanatory.
Speaking of user stuff, be sure to check yours out. Your profile page has all sorts of interesting statistics on what you've posted, as well as a place for you to put ... well, pretty much whatever you want. There's also a blog, which is like other blogs but you can mark your posts to be considered for the "coffee shop" - which is made up of the blog posts displayed on the front page. The message section allows you to send messages to other OmniNerd users without giving up your email address and compromising your NerdRank (hold on, we'll get there). You can also see what content you have starred, what books you've submitted, what content you're working on, and your site preferences.
That pretty much does it. Again, welcome to OmniNerd!
