Bomb Attack Kills Iranian Revolutionary Guard

Newspaper current event by willwaddell on 14 February 2007, tagged as worldaffairs

The sectarian war between Sunni and Shia Muslims in Iraq may be gaining traction elsewhere as well. A bomb attack in the Iranian city of Zahedan, situated near the Afghan and Pakistani borders, has claimed eleven lives and appears to have directly targeted members of Iran's Revolutionary Guard, a military organization created in 1979 by Ayatollah Khomeini. Though Zahedan has been the scene of unrest for some months now, this attack is seen as "unprecedented" in that it openly struck at Iran's revolutionary forces. Iran has arrested several suspects in the case. The province of Sistan-Baluchestan, which has Zahedan as its capital, has seen numerous attacks/kidnappings believed to be the work of a militant Sunni group known as Jundallah (Allah's Army).
